Brad Spillers My Professional Journey

I grew up in Clinton, South Carolina with the dream of becoming an artist.  After graduating Clinton High School in 1998, I went to work at Mr. Augie's Sportswear where I created designs for collegiate apparel.  This was my first experience working with digital artwork and I quickly realized that this was the field I was meant for.  I became proficient in CorelDraw and Adobe Illustrator but had limited involvement in the designs. There was an element truly missing at Mr. Augie's though and that was connecting with people.  Working in an office turning out basic designs bored me, and I knew I wanted something else.

A year later I moved on to Mike Renwick's Screen Printing where my role became more client facing.  I would work with clients in person and have conversations with them about their artwork while doing their designs and it was exactly what was missing.  This small shop allowed me to make decisions with art direction and was a steady source of income while I went to Greenville Technical College figuring out what I wanted to do.   One semester I had a break between classes that allowed me to pick up additional work at a place in Mauldin, Custom Signs & Graphics.   

This opportunity was similar to my current job at Mike Renwick's Screen Printing, but it included signage.  I quickly learned the sign trade and expanded my knowledge into applying vinyl and running digital printers, plotters, and laminators.   I ultimately took on an artist/management role there. These next 20 plus years of working with the public to create apparel, signs, and digital ads taught me that if you really listen to a person and take the time to understand who they are, then you will not only create what they really wanted but build lasting relationships.

I hope to create many more amazing things and continue to learn and grow as times change!  Whether it be a symbol for a website or an entire logo, my expectations are to put together something unique and give a memorable experience.  Let's talk about your next design project!
